My friend Elina always has great ideas and this was one of them. On our latest trip to New York she invited me to see “The Elephant Man” starring Bradley Cooper. Bradley Cooper is known to all by his on-screen performances that inspire women of all ages to fantasize about his good looks, which led him to be crowned People Magazine “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2011.
Needless to say I was shocked by his brilliant performance. He was completely and totally unrecognizable. The character of “The Elephant Man” is a challenging role in Bernard Pomerance’s 1979 play about a Victorian cause celebre, famous for his deformities. What furthers Cooper’s brilliance in the role is that he declines makeup and prosthetics, instead he contorts both his body and his face to suggest his character’s form. Bravo Bradley!
Happily, the depth and range of his acting abilities were recently acknowledged by the Academy with a 2015 best actor nomination for his performance in Clint Eastwood’s “American Sniper”.
For those of you who missed “The Elephant Man” in New York, Cooper is said to appear in the West End later this spring.
